With a professional career spanning four decades, and with practices in Palmerston North, Christchurch, and Hamilton, Darren has contributed to projects in the public, heritage, sports, commercial, industrial, institutional, iwi, and remediation and re-use sectors. Active within the professional body, he was recognised as a Fellow in 2025. He believes architecture should be thoughtful and enhance lives, while being practical, flexible, enduring, and useful.
Significant projects include Manfeild Racecourse and Equestrian facilities, Summerhill Commercial Centre, Awapuni Racecourse, the Grassroots Trust Velodrome in Cambridge, and the Christchurch Cathedral rebuild.
He also oversaw the procurement of NZIA Enduring Architecture Awards for the Manawatū Art Gallery building at Te Manawa and Te Tau o Te Aroha Māori Battalion Hall, as well as an exhibition of local architect Brian Elliott in 2025.
