Professor Caroline Daley is a social and cultural feminist historian of twentieth-century New Zealand. An author and editor of award-winning books and articles, including Leisure and Pleasure: Reshaping and Revealing the New Zealand Body 1900–1960, she has written about many aspects of the country’s past, including beauty contests, nudism, and the 1905 All Blacks.
Caroline has also appeared on radio, television, and in documentaries, and was once interviewed in a “ladies’ rest” for a documentary on New Zealand “dunnies”.
In recent years, Caroline has been a member of the senior leadership team at the University of Auckland, Waipapa Taumata Rau. Now that she is retired, she is able to once again unearth the country’s hidden histories and challenge conventional wisdom.
