Alison is a Heritage Assessment Advisor for Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga and historian for the company Museograph. She has had over 20 years’ experience in archives and research and completed the first digital Masters of History at University of Otago in 2020. She is currently the Professional Historians Association of New Zealand/Aotearoa (PHANZA) Treasurer.

Known as the “Loo Lady”, Alison’s specialist topic is Dunedin underground toilet history, on which she completed the first digital Masters of History at University of Otago in 2020 on the topic. There is now a VR Tour and online game of the long demolished underground spaces using her work. She regularly writes articles and gives talks on this very popular topic.
