Mark Southcombe Architecture
Mark Southcombe is an award-winning architect, researcher and Associate Professor at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, whose work explores the relationships between architecture, people, place and the built environment.
With a career spanning more than three decades, Mark has worked across architectural practice, urban design, heritage adaptation and education. His extensive connections to Whanganui include projects such as the Whanganui Waterfront Redevelopment, the former Thain's Warehouse transformation and the Whanganui Community Arts Centre.
Through his architectural practice, Southcombe Architects, and his academic research, Mark explores how existing buildings and environments can be reimagined, adapted and given new purpose, balancing architectural heritage with contemporary needs.
At Festival of Design Aotearoa, Mark presents A Legacy of Reuse, drawing on his experience in architecture and design to consider the value of working with what already exists, and how thoughtful adaptation can shape the future of our built environment.
